speed limiter

A limitation built into the vehicle that stops the engine pulling beyond a set speed. Art. 5.3.15 names the categories of motor vehicles that must have a speed limiter — in short the heavier lorries and buses — and requires it to be set so that the speed named there is not exceeded. Inspection is visual, using the installation plate. It is therefore not cruise control and not a choice of the driver.
