slippen

SLI-peIPA [ˈslɪpə(n)]

Translation

to skid

The tyres lose grip, usually through heavy braking, too much throttle or too much steering on a slippery surface. Sign J20 warns of skidding risk. What helps: lift off, do not brake in panic, look where you want to go and counter-steer gently. What does not: hard braking without ABS, sharp corrections, or letting go of the wheel. Prevention is lower speed and more distance.
