All parts and devices on frames, load-bearing body parts and the chassis by which the towing and the towed vehicle can be joined, including the fixed or removable parts for fitting, adjusting or using them (art. 1.1 Regeling voertuigen). The coupling is thus not only the ball but the whole structure down into the chassis. That is why a self-fitted, unapproved towbar is a defect of the vehicle, not of the accessory.
