de sleepkabel

SLAYP-kaa-belIPA [ˈsleːpkaːbəl]

mv. sleepkabels

Translation

tow rope

A rope or strap between a towing and a towed vehicle. Its length is limited: towing is not allowed if the distance from the rear of the towing vehicle to the front of the towed vehicle is more than five metres (art. 53). Vehicles with an air brake system may moreover be towed only with a tow bar, that is with a rigid connection and not with a rope (Regeling voertuigen, art. 5.18.2). Keep the rope taut: a slack rope jerks and can snap.
