The vertical load that a trailer or a load carrier puts on the tow ball. That load may not exceed the maximum vertical load under the coupling set by the towbar manufacturer. For a load carrier on the towbar (bicycle carrier, cargo box) there is a fallback: if the towbar states no figure, the load may not exceed 75 kg (Regeling voertuigen, art. 5.18.7 lid 1 g). Too little nose weight is as troublesome as too much: the trailer then starts to sway at higher speed. So place the load a little ahead of the axle.
