het trekdier

TREK-deerIPA ˈtrɛkdiːr

mv. trekdieren

Translation

draught animal

An animal harnessed to move a cart or an implement — in the Netherlands almost always a horse. The RVV knows the animal only as part of a fixed pair: riding or draught animals. The difference lies in the load, not in the breed: an animal that is ridden is a riding animal, an animal that pulls is a draught animal, and the vehicle behind it is then a cart. Sign C1 closes the road in both directions to vehicles, riders and drovers of riding or draught animals or cattle, sign C2 does the same in one direction. The duties rest on the person alongside, the drover.

How it sounds in the exam
