mv. ruiters
Translation
rider on horseback
A road user travelling on horseback. Art. 8 assigns him the bridleway and, where there is none, the verge or the carriageway. Annex 1 names riders apart from vehicles: signs C1 and C2 exclude vehicles, riders and handlers of riding or draught animals or cattle, and sign C9 excludes riders among others. Art. 36 requires riders to carry lights by day in poor visibility. For a motorist what counts is that a horse is easily startled: approach slowly, give a wide berth and do not sound the horn.
