Unwanted freedom of movement in the connection between two parts — in the steering wheel, in the ball joints of the suspension or in the transmission. Chapter 5 of the Regeling voertuigen rejects excessive play. For the steering, the wheel is moved left and right with firm short movements while the car stands over an inspection pit or on a lift (art. 5.2.29). Too much play means the vehicle answers the steering later than the driver expects.
