de schokdemper

SKHOK-dem-perIPA ˈsxɔkdɛmpər

mv. schokdempers

Translation

shock absorber, damper

The part that damps the rebound of the wheels and so keeps the wheel on the road. Cars must have soundly attached and properly working shock absorbers (art. 5.2.28); the same requirement holds for vans up to 3,500 kg (art. 5.3.28). Worn dampers lengthen the stopping distance, let the car heave in a bend and make the nose restless in a side wind.
