de oplegger

OP-le-kherIPA [ˈɔplɛɣər]

mv. opleggers

Translation

semi-trailer

A trailer without its own front axle that rests with part of its weight on the tractor unit. The law simply counts it in: trailers are vehicles moved by another vehicle, and semi-trailers as well (art. 1), and the Regeling voertuigen describes the semi-trailer as a trailer that transfers a considerable static vertical load onto the towing vehicle or the dolly (art. 1.1). Tractor and semi-trailer together form a combination: on a motorway with three or more lanes such a combination longer than 7 metres may use only the two rightmost lanes (art. 43).
