The amount of sound a vehicle makes, measured in dB(A) at a prescribed engine speed. Art. 5.2.11 ties the standard to the vehicle register: the vehicle may not produce a higher noise level than the value stated there, increased by 2 dB(A). Where nothing is stated, fixed limits apply, among them 95 dB(A) at the engine speed named in the article. A rusted-through or replaced exhaust soon misses that limit.
