battery
The battery that feeds the starter motor and the electrical system. The battery of a car must be properly secured (Regeling voertuigen, art. 5.2.12): a loose battery shifts under braking and can short out. In the cold a battery delivers less current while the starter demands more, and short trips with heating, screen heating and lights barely recharge it. Jump leads only help you if the battery itself is still sound.
