A04

Advisory speed

What it means

A recommended speed for this stretch, usually at a bend or an awkward spot. It is not a maximum speed: exceeding it is not in itself a breach of this sign.

What it requires of you

"Advisory" does not mean "of no consequence". Drive faster and things go wrong, and you fall back on art. 19: you must be able to bring your vehicle to a stop within the distance you can see. The sign is above all information about how awkward the spot is.

Where it stands

Before the stretch to which the advice relates, often together with a warning sign.

How far it applies

Applies until sign A5 or the end of the stretch.
