SPLIT-singIPA [ˈsplɪtsɪŋ]

mv. splitsingen

Translation

road fork / divergence

The point where a road, carriageway or lane parts into two directions; sign L6 announces such a fork. Art. 77 names the fork in the exception to the ban on using hatched areas and nose markings: a driver following a rush-hour lane, or lawfully following a bus lane, may pass such an area where roads split or merge. Unlike at a junction the streams do not cross, so the question is not who has priority but who chooses in time. A driver who chooses too late should still not drive over the nose marking.

How it sounds in the exam

Mag u bij een splitsing over het puntstuk rijden om alsnog rechts te gaan?

May you drive over the nose marking at a fork to still go right?
