gore area / nose marking

A polygonal area on the road surface where roads, lanes or carriageways split or merge (art. 1) — the triangular nose between a slip road and the through carriageway. Drivers may not use gore areas (art. 77(1)). If you miss your exit, carry on to the next: steering back across the nose is forbidden and causes exactly the collision the marking exists to prevent.
