Translation
brake lining, friction material
The friction material that presses against the brake disc or inside the brake drum and so slows the car. The lining wears with every brake application and is therefore examined at inspection: if there is doubt about the proper attachment of the lining, or about its carrier or fastening, the inspector may remove wheels and brake drums (art. 5.1b.3). Worn lining means a longer stopping distance and squealing or grinding brakes.
