de wielbasis

VEEL-bah-sisIPA [ˈvilbaːzɪs]

Translation

wheelbase

The distance measured horizontally and parallel to the vehicle’s longitudinal median plane between the centre of the first and the centre of the last axle; for semi-trailers it is measured from the vertical centreline of the coupling (art. 1.1 Regeling voertuigen). On the road a long wheelbase means a larger turning circle, more cut-in and more room needed when turning. That is why a semi-trailer swings left first before a right turn.

How it sounds in the exam
