The pane in front of the driver. Art. 5.2.42 says the windscreen and the side windows beside the driver’s seat may show no damage or discolouration; for the windscreen a separate assessment applies that looks at where the damage sits in the field of view. A chip straight ahead of the driver therefore weighs heavier than the same chip in the corner, and film or dark coating on these panes is not allowed.
