de uitwijkplaats
OWT-vayk-plahtsIPA [ˈœytʋɛikplaːts]
mv. uitwijkplaatsen
Translation
passing place
A widening beside a narrow road where two oncoming vehicles can pass each other. Sign L20 marks a passing place to the right of the road, sign L21 one to the left. Whoever has the passing place on their own side waits there; the other drives on, and that is the whole agreement. Parking does not belong there: an occupied passing place makes the road useless for everyone coming behind.
How it sounds in the exam
Wie wacht er bij een uitwijkplaats: u of de tegenligger?
Who waits at a passing place: you or the oncoming driver?
