MIST-bankIPA [ˈmɪstbɑŋk]

mv. mistbanken

Translation

fog bank

A local, dense strip of fog in otherwise clear weather, typically over water, in a valley or behind a treeline. The danger is the jump: you drive into it at full speed and visibility disappears at a stroke, while art. 19 demands that you can stop within the distance you can see over and that is clear. Take the speed off before the bank, increase your distance, main beam off. The rear fog light is allowed only while visibility stays below 50 metres (art. 34), so in a short bank it goes on and off again.
