de doodlopende weg

DOHT-loh-pen-de vekhIPA [ˈdoːtloːpəndə ʋɛx]

mv. doodlopende wegen

Translation

dead-end road

A road with no through connection: it ends and leads nowhere. Sign L8 stands at the road itself, sign L9 is the advance notice announcing the dead end from the crossing road. Sometimes the sign shows a coloured side branch: then the road is a dead end for cars but not for cyclists and pedestrians. Practical consequence: this is where you turn round, and turning is allowed as long as no sign F7 stands there and it is not a motorway or autoweg (art. 43 lid 1).
