Which language to take the theory exam in

Three options and their price

OptionPrice
Dutch€ 50.50
English€ 57.00
With an interpreter or individually supervised€ 118.50

Russian and Ukrainian do not exist as exam languages. The interpreter option is not an exam in your own language: it is a CBR fee for the format, and you arrange and pay the interpreter yourself.

Why to decide this in advance

The most expensive mistake is preparing in your own language and sitting the exam in Dutch. Legal terms do not carry the same meaning as their everyday translation:

  • bestuurder is not "motorist": a cyclist is also a bestuurder, a pedestrian

is not;

  • voertuig and motorrijtuig are different words, and which of the two

appears in the article decides whether the rule covers bicycles;

  • voorrang verlenen and voor laten gaan sound alike but mean different

duties in different situations;

  • bromfiets and snorfiets are two legal categories, differing by 20 km/h

and by their place on the road.

What English solves

English costs € 6.50 more and removes the language barrier if your English is stronger than your Dutch. The concepts remain Dutch, however: the English version says "moped" where the law distinguishes bromfiets from snorfiets.

Extra time

Surcharge € 13.50. With a dyslexia certificate you reclaim it within fourteen days of the exam via Mijn CBR.

Our advice

Prepare in your own language, but learn the terms in Dutch and together with their legal meaning from the outset.
