de passeerbaan

pa-SAYR-bahnIPA [pɑˈseːrbaːn]

mv. passeerbanen

Translation

passing lane for slow vehicles

A separate carriageway that slow vehicles must move onto so they can be overtaken. Sign F11 makes its use compulsory for agricultural and forestry tractors, motor vehicles of limited speed and mobile machinery; sign F12 lifts that duty again. So the passing lane is not there to go faster yourself, but to let the traffic behind you through. Anyone not obliged to use it does not belong there.
